Subtraction in life, Regress Origin

I define home as a place that is unpretentious and precious, minus all the beauty in front of me, and feels the warmth of simplicity with my heart. In the modern society where things are turbulent and material desires are overflowing, “subtraction in life” embodies a brand-new life concept, which inspires people to think about the origin and true meaning of life.

So this time the design style uses wabi-sabi style. Wabi-sabi is a kind of Zen, a world view, reminding us to return to the origin of life, giving people a life aesthetic of simplicity, tranquility, softness, nature, and so on. The main material and color combination is a neutral color, which is mainly made of cement, wood, rattan, and linen, and matched with the green plants around the house to form a soft tone, emphasizing the true appearance of things under the traces of time.
DAIKIN YOUTH DESIGN COMPETITION 2021
SILVER AWARD
The overall design only embeds things that are necessary and beautify. Eliminates many unnecessary decorations in the design.

In addition, it will be named IN CONTROL for this project because when designing everything such as natural light, indoor ventilation, space planning, functioning, indoor color matching and the overall sense of touch and vision are under control.

Match with daikin hcac product to use different functions of air-conditioning in each different space, so that the space can be taken care of. In addition to the function of air conditioning, their appearance is also very minimal and fashionable, which makes the space design look more elegant, does not affect the beauty, does not appear particularly prominent, and can be perfectly integrated into the design.

The Incredible ‘Companion’

My Dream collection of KAWS’ classic ‘Companion’ figures (by Brian Donnelly) inspired thegreening of the interior space design, in a humble semi-detached home. The courtyard sets as a center stage transforming the KAWS character into a gigantic 4.7m height green wire netting structure, stretching across the two floors. Green creepers gradually grow and turn the entire figure into a lively green figure, providing natural shades and freshness to the surrounding spaces. The flowing water channel adds good Feng Shui as it is the ancient Chinese symbol of prosperity and abundance The sustainable and refreshing design of the courtyard is enhanced with Daikin’s Home Central Air Conditioning system.

Gong Nekara House resonates the marriage between old and Modern. The design anticipates to blend the unique design elements that dwells in traditional Malay House however still portrays the touch of modern elements. An interior setting that can balance the sense of now and the future; the feel of contemporary.

Inspired by the function of ‘Gong Nekara’ as one of traditional music. The instrument is being used as symbolism, delivering communication and a work of art during its times, the design is intended to the same. An interior that can be remember for its blending between old and new while improving the occupant’s life quality through

the interior itself.

The project is a two- storey house with three main components area which is ‘Rumah ibu’ (main core of the house), ‘Rumah Tengah/ Selang’ (Dining Area) and ‘Dapur’ (kitchen). Still relying on the nuance of the Gong as music instrument, rhythm and flow between these spaces are connected with an external staircase that echoes the feel of ‘kampung’ ambience. The separation of external and internal are buried in the design, for the dwellers can experienced the serenity of breeze sound rustle into the trees and at the same time harvesting the natural ventilation.

The material used for the furniture’s and soft furnishing are deliberately using a textured natural material such as rattan, woods and rugs. Colours are controlled with nature palettes to create subtle and fresh moods with minimal bold hue used for accentuation. The house is installed with Daikin HCAC System which allowing the aesthetic of wood ceiling design is achievable with their sleek and slim design of blower unit.

Gong Nekara speaks on its own sound, traditional yet modern, indoor but blends with the outdoor, sustain through its time.

As contemporary living continues to be dominated by sleek and minimal looks, many city dwellers like myself, forced to stay at home during the pandemic, have become disenchanted with the somewhat sterile and impersonal aesthetics of modern homes. In response to this, my dream home would be one that feels like walking into a grandma’s house, cosy, lively and down-to-earth. It feels comfortable because it has a familiar and lived-in quality to it. Granny Chic is an updated take on traditional style for the 21st century, a marriage between the past and the present. It is brought to life through embracing natural materials and ‘old-fashioned’ patterns, while maintaining a brightly coordinated colour palette. Quality furniture that are classically shaped, perhaps a thrifted vintage collection, gives it a timeless look. By mixing in a few modern elements, the style is nostalgic and comfortable without looking kitschy

Finding perfection in Imperfection | Impermanent | Incomplete

A new house must not be everything new! This project choose to re-design a double storey terrace house, one of the most common typology housing in Malaysia, giving the most common old house a new look, new system, with a new life. The design project intends to reorganize the layout of the house with an open plan with opening to allow natural light into the house. Wabi-Sabi teaches us to accept and live with imperfections, and this project
demonstrates this quality by applying simple architectural material use as its raw state in the interior space as a beauty in life to live with. The open plan also suggested for people living within the same house to gather and interacts, that require better air conditioning system to keep the spaces at comfort. With the Daikin Home Central Air Conditioning system, all the spaces can achieve cooling comfort efficiently yet ceiling height and aesthetic will not be compromised with its minimal, slim and sleek design. In this project, greenery landscape is introduced inside and outside of the space to bring nature closer to living while we are staying at home, working from home in this pandemic.

A dream home environment that encapsulates the tranquility and beauty of spring will be the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The design concept is “Spring in the Air” which is inspired by the modern Neoclassical design. This concept is brought to life using three key elements of spring which are birds, flowers, and natural breeze.

This design utilizes Chinoiserie Wallpaper to provide the overall visuals of the home with elements of birds and flowers. Together with the combination of the sleek curved furniture and decor, it creates an harmonious environment that is fresh and close to nature.

Daikin HCAC products has an option for every space in the home which can integrate seamlessly with the design concept. They function well in the background to provide the homeowner with natural breeze indoors.

Every corner of the space gives an ambience of “Spring in the Air” with birds chirping and fragrant flowers blooming amidst the gentle spring breeze. The home is then transformed into a space that provides a great feeling of warmth and comfort.

Pang Jing Hong

The residention design concept development natural and clear tone. Considering that the owner is a person who loves nature and energy saving, the design of the house has natural light and natural wind function. The key area is in the family area through skylights to allow natural light and wind to ow into the house to achieve a natural feeling.

The residental design idea was Tenderness and warmth while complementing with all elements as a welcoming residential house together with Daikin HCAC products. To be honest, as the brief was to design a residential house of any design concept while implementing Daikin HCAC products, hence this became quite a challenge whereby the design direction was unclear fromthe start. With this, I am glad to receive support guidance and reference from my family, friends and lecturer in this competition.

Carla Alverina Lee

Japandi
As time passes by, people tend to forget the traditional elements in interior design. Nowadays, a lot of
large scale houses are designed with luxurious elements such as golds and marbles. This new design idea
aims to reintroduce the forgotten warm colours of Japanese design with the neutral colours of
Scandinavian design. Japandi focuses on a minimalistic yet practical design with the application of
Daikin’s HCAC Products. As the timber bring warmness to the space, the bold neutral colours (such as
navy blue and black) adds a character and contract to the space. The designs are kept simple with clean
lines and it brings a cozy and homey feel to the space.

“传承” (Heritance) is a concept that blends traditional and modern elements, providing an engaging way for children to connect with Chinese culture. It promotes family bonding by creating opportunities for children to spend meaningful time with their parents and grandparents while learning about their heritage.

In this project, I aim to design a home for a three-generation family that encourages interaction across all ages. The space is crafted to blend traditional materials, like wood and rattan, with modern elements such as marble, tiles, and jade. These choices create a harmonious environment that celebrates cultural heritage while catering to contemporary living. The warm, natural feel of wood and rattan evokes classic Chinese aesthetics, while the sleek finish of marble and jade adds a contemporary touch.

A key feature of the design is the Chinese chess area in the courtyard. This space invites children to engage in a traditional game, fostering learning and cultural exchange with their parents and grandparents. It turns playtime into an educational experience, promoting inter-generational interaction and bridging the generation gap.

Additionally, open-plan living areas encourage family gatherings, while intimate nooks offer spaces for quiet reflection and conversation. The integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, like a garden with traditional Chinese plants, further connects the home to nature and cultural symbolism. This design creates a vibrant environment where cultural heritage is actively celebrated and passed down, blending the old with the new to honor the past while embracing the future.
Recall back the client living sensory in Japan traditional style. The reason for using recall is to remember back to the time living in Japan, using natural elements to bring back the feeling like a zen garden, bamboo& fresh air ventilation.

Also you can easily see those natural elements at any angle, like combining the interior with the exterior.

Balance & emphasis on the living experience between Malaysia & Japan as a design principle. Using Modern Japanese to create a Japanese environment but more suitable for basic Malaysian living requirements.
To navigate tomorrow’s design is to pave the path towards it, as what we see today is thanks to what we had before us. My belief in “tomorrows design” is to heavily include the local traditional styles and designs of Malaysia while blending with today’s time. I want to create a home that tells one journey that traverse from the tip and tail of Borneo, through the Straits and Borders of Thailand. I believe the future of design should reflect on what we had from the past, ensuring the survivability of yesterday’s craft, preserving the unique cultures of Malaysia and its style.

The concept of the home and space utilizes the eclectic style while keeping it on par with today’s time. The home will feature design styles, furniture and materials that represented Malaysia’s unique culture and history, prioritizing local craftsmanship. From Borneo’s unique cotton, rattan and wood crafts to Malaya’s fusion of unique Peranakan tiling and Batik fabric, a space that reflects on Malaysia’s use of traditional materials that is suitable for the climate of the region. The space is meant to create a sense of nostalgia and place within the hearts of Malaysians. A space where one can understand and experience what built todays Malaysia and its community, while ensuring tomorrows design won’t leave them behind and forgotten.
This two-story residence is inspired by rich Mexican style, skilfully blending traditional architectural elements with modern living needs to create a warm and vibrant home. The exterior features classic Mexican thick stone and adobe bricks, with arched windows and simple lines reflecting a dialogue between history and modernity. The bold use of colours becomes a design highlight, with orange, terracotta, yellow, and blue interwoven, paired with handcrafted Talavera tiles to create a layered and uniquely personalized spatial experience.

Natural materials such as wood, stone, and ceramics are widely used, giving the residence a rustic texture. The rough wooden beams and warm ceramic pieces, intertwined with light and shadow, showcase the natural and life philosophies found in Mexican culture. The open-flow design on the first floor connects the living room, dining room, and kitchen, while large glass windows bring outdoor views inside, allowing sunlight to fill every corner. The high ceilings add spaciousness and an artistic atmosphere to the interior. The second floor serves as a quiet private space, with bedrooms echoing the outdoor scenery, and the master bedroom featuring a walk-in closet and an en-suite bathroom, ensuring comfort and privacy.

The integration of modern technology enhances the living experience by making it smarter and more comfortable. The house is equipped with intelligent humidity and temperature control systems, along with a 3D air circulation system, ensuring that every room’s environment remains at its best. The outdoor living area extends the indoor-outdoor natural transition typical of Mexican style, with a small garden cantered around a fountain, surrounded by cacti and native plants. Sunlight filters through pergolas, creating patterns of light and shadow, while lounge chairs and hammocks offer ideal gathering spaces for family and friends.

Through the combination of traditional aesthetics, modern technology, and craftsmanship, this residence perfectly showcases the vitality and artistic expression of Mexican style, making it a vibrant, warm, and smart dream home.
This project presents a visionary modular house model designed for ultimate mobility and adaptability. The concept redefines how people can live by offering a home that can be placed anywhere—whether in remote natural settings, urban outskirts, or coastal regions. Each module is prefabricated in a factory, ensuring precise construction and quality control, and can be easily transported by land, sea, or air to its desired location. Upon arrival, the modules are efficiently assembled on-site, providing a seamless living solution that blends with any environment.

The modular house design offers flexible combinations, allowing for single-floor or double- storey configurations that can be adapted for various uses. Whether it’s a home, a sports hall, or a greenhouse, the modular system provides versatility to meet different needs. These modular units can be combined and expanded over time, ultimately forming larger communities or villages. This adaptability not only enhances the functionality of each module but also creates opportunities for diverse environments, from small individual dwellings to complex, multi-purpose neighborhoods, promoting a sense of community while maintaining individuality.
Sarawak is one of the states in Malaysia that is located in eastward of Malaysia. However, the exposure and uniqueness of the state failed to reach peninsular folks due to its geographical location.

This project proposes for a Sarawak Centre built in the westward Malaysia as a new attraction to the locals and as a ‘home’ to the Sarawak folks, offering a two-way relation between the Selangor and Sarawak state government respectively. In line with Sustainable Design Goals (SDGs), this collaboration should contribute positively to the local economy and the happiness index of Sarawakians in the peninsular.

Hotel Eidesis- Design Concept
In response to the theme “Navigating Tomorrow,” I see tomorrow as something shaped by the past. By drawing on the essence of what came before, we can better navigate what lies ahead

One story from the past that deserves to be revisited is the history of mining in Malaysia. Using design as a medium, Hotel Eidesis is a project that brings back memories of Malaysia’s golden age of mining. Through research, I have gathered the scattered fragments of this story, piecing them together to create a complete narrative that is shared with guests through designs that reflect specific characters and functions. That is why I named it Eideis — “Eidesis” comes from the Greek “eidos,” meaning the ideal form or essence, suggesting a focus on capturing the true essence or concept of an experience or idea.

These stories have been transformed into inspired spaces throughout the hotel. They connect with people, offer relaxation, provide entertainment, and even spark inspiration, all while ensuring environmental sustainability. Guests who visit Hotel Eidesis become part of this story, as if the history is being revived and reenacted. However, this time, people will learn from the lessons of the past to help guide a better tomorrow.
A form of interconnection, growth and unity. Inspired from SpaceX’s long term goal of making humans a multiplanetary species that requires extensive exploration on space, conditions, resources and potential sustainable human presence on other planets. Each launch of their spacecraft embodies an endless loop of discovery, a concept aimed to capture in my design. Allowing paths of this exhibition to be boundless, without limitations and inviting visitors to embark on a fluid journey of exploration. seamlessly connected bridges link to various kinds of activities within the exhibition which fosters a dynamic environment while maintaining a unified sense of purpose and connectivity for all who explore it.

Interconnection: inspired by one of their innovations called the starlink, known to be a constellation of satellites designed to provide global high speed internet, ultimately to connect the world, cultures and society together giving a form of connection using innovation.

Growth: The deep exploration into being multi-planetary species created a sense of monument to develop our habitats and ecosystems. With each perpetual discovery, together as a whole we grow into something beyond the lines.

Unity: Philosophically, spaceX goals can be interpreted into a sense of us connecting with the universe, millions of galaxies, particles and our home “earth.” As humanity progresses, the more advancement we are fulfilling, and this as a whole brings all of us forward into a unity of a better world.
ARTZ, or Art Radiance Tropical Zen, is an immersive cultural center that celebrates the rich tapestry of Malaysia’s diverse heritage through an innovative and engaging design concept. This space artfully integrates the vibrant cultures of Malaysia’s three main ethnic groups- Chinese, Malay, and Indian-creating a harmonious environment that showcases the unique traditions, art, and cultural practices of each group. Visitors are invited to explore a series of interactive exhibits and programs that immerse them in the traditional crafts, culinary delights, and artistic expressions of these cultures. By weaving together these elements, ARTZ not only honors the distinctiveness of Malaysian culture but also highlights the shared experiences that unite its people, offering a deep and multifaceted understanding of the nation’s heritage.

The design of ARTZ is inspired by the natural beauty and organic forms found in Malaysia’s tropical landscape. The space features flowing, organic structures that echo the graceful contours of nature, such as the lush rainforest and meandering rivers. These organic forms are used to create fluid transitions between the different cultural zones, symbolizing the seamless interplay and mutual influence between the Chinese, Malay, and Indian cultures. This approach not only celebrates the diversity within Malavsia but also emphasizes the interconnectedness of these cultural threads, fostering a sense of unity and continuity. The natural design elements create a soothing and meditative atmosphere, inviting visitors to experience the serenity and richness of Malaysia’s cultural landscape in a truly immersive way.

Astandout feature of ARTZ is the “Beyond Horizon” exhibit, which employs organic architectural forms to create an extraordinary sensory journey. This exhibit uses innovative, nature-inspired structures to link the different cultural experiences in a way that mirrors the interconnectedness of Malaysia’s cultural heritage. The organic forms–reminiscent of natural growth patterns and tropical flora-serve as both visual and physical connectors between the various cultural zones, enhancing the flow and interaction between them. By using these natural and fluid designs, “Beyond Horizon” not only highlights the beauty of Malaysia’s diverse cultures but also reinforces the idea that, despite their unique characteristics, they are all part of a cohesive and evolving cultural landscape.

DESIGN CONCEPT

Ler Teck Ho

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)

In crafting the interior design of these spaces, the overarching concept blends elegance, sustainability, and innovation. I draw inspiration from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), integrating a commitment to a more sustainable future into every facet of my design. Throughout these rooms, you’ll find a harmonious fusion of nature’s beauty, modern luxury, and forward-thinking living.

My choice of materials mirrors this ethos. The concrete porcelain tile and timber slabs underfoot represent durability and eco-friendliness, aligning with SDGs to reduce environmental impact. Bronzite walls add elegance while prompting us to think about the precious resources of our planet. Swarovski crystal accents and artistic lighting underscore the importance of balancing innovation with timeless allure.

Wooden elements throughout promote warmth and a connection to nature, emphasizing our commitment to responsibly sourced materials. Sustainable furniture choices echo our dedication to minimizing our carbon footprint. In these spaces, plant decorations are more than aesthetic; they remind us of our dependence on the environment, urging us to safeguard it.

The seamless connection between rooms encourages a sense of unity, fostering sustainability not only in design but in the way we live. The library and study areas, open to the family mall, promote knowledge and a deep respect for learning. The gymnasium inspires active, eco-conscious lifestyles. Even the bedrooms are sanctuaries of rest, with energy-efficient lighting and cooling systems.

In each space, sustainability and luxury dance in harmony. As we look to the future, we’re reminded of the fragility of our world and the opportunities we have to make it beter. Through thoughtful design, we embrace the Sustainable Development Goals, turning our spaces into sanctuaries of inspiration, reflection, and conscious living.

DESIGN CONCEPT

The concept is inspired by the keyword ‘bubbles’ as bubbles have many interpretations. The bubbles with different shapes can fuse together or get alone when we see them, and one bubble can even contain more bubbles inside it, and some bubbles will have holes when we see them, and the comparison or contrast of normal bubbles and bubbles with holes produces a connection with ‘opportunities’ and ‘obstacles’ we make and meet in life, and we’ll feel happy or upset about it. The bubbles let me imagine a happy and well-being scene of people playing and relaxing in a garden and pure feeling. A home is a place of happiness and peace. This led me to design a lively house full of nature that give endless hope for everyday routine, and diversity and inclusiveness that give enough spaces for person in the house to do things publicly or privately and spaces for different groups or different age groups or different functions/purposes with no stress and without losing interaction. Malaysia is a tropical country and I love tropical-style houses. Therefore, to connect with bubbles, I choose to design a modern tropical house with plants and Malaysia ethnic characteristics from the aspect of materials mainly red bricks, concrete, terracotta, marble, and tile; textures like wood and stone textures, and colours with jumping tone and playing around the design on the floor layout, wall, and elevation of the house to make the vivid atmosphere.

The design named Unlooked Garden because it symbolizes lively, growth, beauty, and the nurturing of relationships has a whimsical and poetic quality that can capture the imagination of the audience, thus giving a thought-provoking artistic secret garden style feeling that conveys a sense of romance, wonder & exploration as bubbles are also giving mysterious feeling that stimulate the curiosity.

DESIGN CONCEPT

The Idea of ‘Interwoven Oasis’ is inspired by the need to reconnect back to nature in our own safe space, and it essentially goes back to the sustainable development goals. My design’s main concepts play with themes of seasons distinguished in the two story house: the ground floor with the main theme of summer and the lower ground floor winter, showcasing contrasting seasons in unity. The focus itself is on open spaces, which allows more effective natural and mechanical ventilation inside the house, and letting in natural light as much as possible. The whole concept of the house ties back to the idea of sustainability and comfort, and bringing back nature into the home, which is why I integrated many greens throughout each space.

Emphasising on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, the house utilises not only energy efficient systems like the Daikin air conditioning unit, solar power and rain water collection tank (climate action SDG 13), it does it also through sourcing sustainable materials and raw material to embellish the house (SDG 14,15 &12).

The concept of seasons in the respective floors connects back with Nature and provides a design contrast and atmosphere between the two spaces whilst in the same theme.

In the Ground floor I wanted to create an atmosphere of peace and healing so the design is oriented with the concept of summer and a modern Zen interior. Making use of sustainable wood material and raw stone finishes.

In the Lower Ground floor the emphasis points are of comfort and socialisation so the dark winter theme accommodates this enclosed and safe environment, the idea of comfort is from the image of a cave where it is cozy and dark. So the materials we use are more raw like concrete and stones with hints of wood.

My design concept is inspiration from ceramic craftsmanship, particularly from the work of Japanese ceramic artisan Tomoya Sakai. He is my client background in this project. My admire how Tomoya Sakai he translates the sculptures and creatures from his imaginative world into tangible ceramic pieces, using his hands and colors bring them into the life. Therefore, I have chosen these artwork, his “collection” and the diverse irregular shapes that emerge during the ceramic molding process as the central theme and my concept for this Daikin Youth Design Competition project.

I would like to design these elements to integrate into the owner’s life, providing companionship and imbuing them (ceramic craft) with additional functionality to make them more meaningful and enriching. And also I want to try challenge the conventional understanding of a “home” in modern times, moving away from a focus on expensive materials like marble, stainless steel, or high-end furniture. What I aim to archive is to bring Tomoya Sakai his lifelong fantasy world into the real world, and making them visible at anytime and inspiring the owner’s creativity. Furthermore, I was using material like soft touch plastics, fabric or soft touch leather to covering to introduce a different kind of luxury. And another important thing is, I bold and distinctive design for the casing of the ducted air conditioning system. It incorporates elements of ceramic craftsmanship and creates a completely new look for the air conditioning unit, breaking away from the conventional appearance. These transformation is meant to turn this house into not just a place of residence, its also can become a mysterious world by what owner’s imagine and artistic expressions. It can also serve as an exhibition space to showcase owner’s artwork and inviting visitors to come.

“Home is where the heart is.” “Home means the place where we find love and acceptance. Home means the place where we find love and acceptance” Home, different people define it differently. But due to the rapid development of technology. The concept of home had become blurry and faded. People start to treat home as accommodation, a place to stay, a place to sleep. This causes the people living in a group, individually. Currently, the millennials and generation z experience varies kind of mental issue and mental health problem, especially in Japan and China. The lack of linkage between people and people bring a big impact to the society.

The Kernel, explore about the core and roots of a home, symbolise the central and the most important part of each human being. To enhance the sense of ownership of the residents, direct and indirect interaction between people and people are foster in Kernel. The solid and void are use as the main architectural element to contain the everchanging of daily life. The main courtyard act as the main void, allow naturaldaylight to be observe and acknowledge the everychanging of the both nature and the residents. Green and sustainable design are implement in Kernel, so that Kernel able ot achieve the core of SDG, which is have a well bioshepe as a the foundation, create a society with a compassion and improve the economy.

Last but not least, Kernel is try to redefine the concept of home in the current era, as the great architect Louis Kahn once said “Architecture is reaching out the truth”

SPACE OF THE FUTURE.For me, living in a relaxed and comfortable environment in the future world is a great choice. In my design, I used the natural state of mind to bring out the oppressive feeling in the future. In addition, proper sunlight and indoor environment can bring out a warm and relaxed life. Everyone in the future world can feel warm and relaxed in a stressful environment, especially in an environment surrounded by multiple landscapes. I introduce “Wabi-sabi” which originally from Japanese with the meaning of finding beauty in imperfection where “Wabi” refer to living with humility and simplicity while “sabi” is defined as the ability to accept the lifecycle of anything as it is – flaws and all. This concept combines natural inspirations and a neutral palette with a nod to the beauty in the imperfection of daily life and celebrates the knot in the wood or the wrinkle in the linen, the imperfection makes life perfection. To achieve wabi sabi style to respecting time and nature while revealing the essence of each element.the main material used throughhout the house is the wrinkle in the linen and wood texture. The house is flooded with natural light and shadow in many areas, and surrounded by plenty of interior scenery, creating a relaxing atmosphere.

Designing the Gundam Office in a futuristic style with a predominantly red, yellow and white colour scheme not only pays homage to the iconic Gundam series, but also offers many practical and aesthetic advantages. The shape utilizes a pointed angular design to match the combined shape of the Gundam

First and foremost, the futuristic design fits perfectly with the Gundam brand. Gundam is known for its advanced technology, cutting-edge mechs, and futuristic scenarios. By adopting a futuristic style, the office will immerse employees and visitors into the Gundam universe, creating a unique and inspiring workspace that resonates with fans and embodies the spirit of innovation.

The choice of colour is equally important. Red, yellow and white are the signature colours of Gundam, symbolizing the different elements of the series. Red represents strength, strength and Gundam’s fighting ability. Yellow symbolizes hope, optimism, and the brighter side of humanity that is often depicted in Gundam stories. White symbolizes purity, peace and the search for understanding in a world filled with conflict. Incorporating these colours into office design not only differentiates work areas, but also communicates the core values and themes of the Gundam series.

Additionally, these colours can have a psychological impact on employees. Red workspaces inspire energy and motivation, increasing productivity in application areas. The yellow craft zone enhances creativity and optimism, which are essential for problem solving and innovation. A white display area can create a calming atmosphere.

The incorporation of Gundam’s iconic elements into the office design will undoubtedly attract employees and visitors alike, making it a memorable and engaging workplace.

Recompose is a provider of compassionate pet death care services specializing in remains composting. With the mission of transforming grief into growth, the bodies are converted into soil through natural organic reduction. It offers a green alternative to existing disposal options such as cremation and burial. The resulting soil with nutrients can be used to plant a tree, enrich and nourish lands and gardens. From the memorial and paying tribute to the beloved pets to using the soil to nurture the growth of new life, this process aims to make death care healing and nourishing. It can also be a beautiful way to embrace and honor the circle of life.

ONE:DERER, derived from the word wanderer: people who travels around rather than settling in one place. Inspired from the nature of a co-working space, where targeted users would temporarily rent a working space as it is more conventional, flexible, and cost saving rather than being in a traditional office.

Aims of the project is closely related to the street’s issue where targeted users will be exposed to new opportunities, through networking and opens to new projects collaboration or works with other people hence creating a sense of community and drives the economic growth of the street. Besides that, the project also aims to strengthen the social interaction that the street needed by the existing businesses to become functional, alive, and expandable following the issues arising from the street.

Some opportunities and potentials have been identified and this can be exploited to innovate a new change to the business’s owners. It is located next to KTM Klang station where usually workers would accommodate to travel to their workplace or students who ride public transportation to find places to study somewhere rather than staying at home.

From the site’s issues and potentials, I came up with a concept based on the characteristic of being visible. “Visible” refers to the act of capable of being discovered or perceived: recognizable. The intention of the concept is to be able to make the selected space visible to the public, having no boundary and inclusive to the society, to combat the Jalan Raya Timur current issues: dead and inconsistent social interactions occur. However, the opportunities are underestimated as the area is packed with businesses but remain stagnant and not expanded even though the potential is there. The aim of the concept is to help economic growth through collaborations and business interactions that could lead to innovations.

The concept is heavily inspired by the Japandi aesthetic which derived from a world view that centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfections. The Japandi style is a style that intelligently combines Scandinavian practicality and Japanese minimalism. A very harmonious hybrid that stands out for its functionality and organization. Japandi searches for simplicity and harmony with nature. The use of natural materials which are perfectly combined with the warm and light-colors that are classic in Japan, giving a light touch of oriental elegance to the laconic interior.

My dream home is a place of beauty, serenity and inspirational. In my mind, I hope that my dream house is far from main city and industrial area due to I like the quiet environment. Waking up to the sound of nature by the sound of birds, perched in the tree branches.

In a nutshell, a dream house would reflect our feelings, thoughts and personality. If we live in a place close to the serenity of nature, our minds and bodies will be filled with positive energy.

Wong Shee Min

Modern-Lux Hideaway
Modern-Lux Hideaway is to create a sense of journey or travelling. Due to the current pandemic Covid-19, it is no longer allowed to travel to other amazing countries. Hence, the design purpose is to create a space that allows people to feel like they are in adifferent county. It allows the opportunity to create a space that feels like a hideaway that located away from the busy city while being safe. Therefore, creating a modern design using different types of natural materials and plants alongside a strong vibe can create a relaxing and luxurious interior that helps people temporarily escape from the busy city and current pandemic.

Emilia Tan Ee Xun

Burgundy Grey
The interior was inspired from the theme of designing a “dream house”. The colour palette of the interior space includes most grey tones and a pop of burgundy red. This creates emphasis on the cohesion of colours whilst having a fun contrast, which reflects on my dream house where a normal house should have a pop of colour which ties in the whole environment. Minimal materials were used in the interior, such as wood and cement wash which blends well together. This concept is everlasting and easily liked by consumers as the pop of colour can be customizable.

First of all, I would like to thank Daikin for organizing this Youth Design Competition to give opportunity to interior design students to explore and express their creativity. I am very excited and overwhelmed to get awarded for Gold Award in this competition.

The design “Dark Luxury” is a residential house developed from the worries of the public on implementing a dark mood board into their houses together with the utilization of air conditioners as styling dark and moody interiors have become a trend nowadays. Even though dark elements are very empowering for residential spaces, the idea is to design a welcoming yet stylish house with the combination of gold and nature elements. All in all, the design is created with depth and character while complementing with all elements as a welcoming residential house together with Daikin HCAC products. To be honest, as the brief was to design a residential house of any design concept while implementing Daikin HCAC products, hence this became quite a challenge whereby the design direction was unclear from the start. With this, I am glad to receive support guidance and reference from my family, friends and lecturer in this competition.

Portale is inspired by the modern art movement Surrealism, sought a revolution against the constraints of the rational mind. To implement the idea of the design, curvy shapes and form in the interior bring people to another world that is calm and quiet. The project plays with natural light, form, but at the same time with the powerful natural materials all over the interior. Indoor tonal mostly uses relatively calm gray tone, brass, wood color, and natural stone color, form a kind of artistic and light luzurious atmosphere altogether.

Hey to the judges that seeing this document and I wish you have a good day. My name is Tan Jin Long I am a student from a academy called Mobius Academy.

So talking about my concept for this year “Daikin Layout Competition “is coming from industrial design, and why industrial? Because what I see in my vision industrial design always come with these huge window and spacious space where light is exposed in the space with all the exposed element and I know is suitable for this challenging layout.

But no just style is my concept a style is a style represent something but what my second concept is human interaction. Which mean why today human can’t be in 18s having their time to talk and not just looking phone.

“Human is like a magnet, we need to connect with each other”

Therefore, I create a layout where I called “Human Bonding” where all space can be connected and can be seen at the same time, making the family closer and closer and not just digital. Giving the space where they can be fun and bonding together and same time have privacy.

That’s all I have to say and I have done my best to give judges see the best of mine design.

Thank you for your time and have a good day.

Dark Luxury

As styling dark and moody interior has grown as a new favourite trend, many may have the intention to implement in their modern household while worried about the utilisation of air conditioning to the space since it may be in contrast with the room. The design idea incorporates dark colours along with the touch of natural elements and materials such as natural stones, timber, plants, and animal-like decorations to bring nature into residential interior. As dark colours add depth and character to the space, a touch of gold especially on lighting brightens up the mood with a luxurious ambience. Even though empowering, with the mix of dark luxury and natural elements, the interior remains to give off a comfortable residential environment for occupants as it is designed to be minimal and sleek. With this, the use of Daikin HCAC products that has a minimal outlook could blend in well with the spaces, complimenting with each element besides performing its functions.

The design concept Urban Charm is the idea of seamlessly ultilizes the interior into the urban context. In most of the space, the light is emphasized and blended with dark colors, which reflect the blooming light of the city at night. In addition, the design also incorporates natural elements such as dark brown wood texture to make the overall theme less rigid and vibrant. When carefully observed, this design combine the golden color of luxury, which not only makes the finishing point but also reflects the city’s luxury and desire for wealth. The design also integrate with brown tones to retain a sense of space and make the whole more integrated.

Caption of each area:
Living room is mainly a place for entertainment. The design of the sofa combine with the coffee table can be used in different positions and direction in order to enjoy the view of swimming pool and landscape next to this area. Considering the height of this space, we customized a two-story cabinet as a TV console and display cabinet.

Kitchen was designed to flexibly uses the combination of gray, and gold colour interconnecting with warm lights to form a good dining atmosphere, which more reflects the urban theme environment.

Master bedroom was designed to meet the needs of modern urbanites but also to meet the basic functions of this space. The resting area is separated from the work area and retains the natural light and airflow to ensure the comfort of the bedroom. The bedroom is not only a resting place but also a relaxing place, the whole uses many organic and irregular shapes make the atmosphere no longer formal.
Walk-in closet uses glass as a compartment to expand the whole space and present a sense of luxury. The dressing table design incorporate with the organic shapes and noble designs to give it a classically elegant feel.

The shadow house is a project that shows the aesthetic of black. The entire house has covered by monochrome colors and using lights to create different tone of shades. The style applied in this house is modern minimalist which is suitable for what a luxurious house should be.

Design Concept

Chong Yuin Yik

BRIGHT & DARK is a concept that arises because of people’s different aesthetics. Each room with different design will be able to highlights different people’ side as that can reflect the contrast of BRIGHT & DARK. I was wondering why do people always fix by only one design style in a design unit, every client have their own taste on interior design. Therefore, BRIGHT & DARK concept was born for the contradiction between using one design style or follow people’s preference. In the Kitchen and Living Room will be brighter as these will be the area that mostly used, so design with mixture of zen and minimalist style in brighter colour tone. In Bedroom and Closet will be Hong Kong style(aka modern simplicity), design in these area will be in darker to link back the design concept of BRIGHT&DARK. For the part of linking the design, colour matching will be the best choice as all different design styles have their own specific colour tone to represent so in the presentation board have shown that the gradient of brightness is changing from room to room. From kitchen to closet, form bright to dark. And so, Daikin air-conditioner will be the focus of the design, so the color matching of ceiling and walls will be based on the colour of Daikin air-conditioner. For most of the designer will think that designing with different style is just like taking a high risk, but it a great chance and platform for students to propose their own design thoughts so taking this risk will be my opportunity of learning as a student.

Space Safari

In a noisy, densely overpopulated modern world full of visual advertisements, non-recyclable materials, excess of different objects people need to find own Space Safari. This project is about escape from the reality, and ran to outer space. Outer Space is extremely mysterious, elegant, and there are silence because space is vacuum and so there’s no medium for sound to travel through. Confronting the informational squall, we want to have a visually clean and simple interior. So that, the design idea incorporates with white and grey color scheme, round smoothing shape and natural element such as tree and rock to create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere in interior. A big blurred sphere window with bucida tree gives the character to the interior, makes it futuristic and mysterious. Let us use special but simple design to create space illusions, and know that people like enjoying peaceful weather and nature in silence is something every one like, we can use them to help us achieve this goal.

This project is about escape from the reality, and ran to outer space.
