Champion: Lim Joe Yi

First of all, I would like to thank Daikin for organizing this Youth Design Competition to give opportunity to interior design students to explore and express their creativity. I am very excited and overwhelmed to get awarded for Gold Award in this competition.

The design “Dark Luxury” is a residential house developed from the worries of the public on implementing a dark mood board into their houses together with the utilization of air conditioners as styling dark and moody interiors have become a trend nowadays. Even though dark elements are very empowering for residential spaces, the idea is to design a welcoming yet stylish house with the combination of gold and nature elements. All in all, the design is created with depth and character while complementing with all elements as a welcoming residential house together with Daikin HCAC products. To be honest, as the brief was to design a residential house of any design concept while implementing Daikin HCAC products, hence this became quite a challenge whereby the design direction was unclear from the start. With this, I am glad to receive support guidance and reference from my family, friends and lecturer in this competition.

Space Safari

In a noisy, densely overpopulated modern world full of visual advertisements, non-recyclable materials, excess of different objects people need to find own Space Safari. This project is about escape from the reality, and ran to outer space. Outer Space is extremely mysterious, elegant, and there are silence because space is vacuum and so there’s no medium for sound to travel through. Confronting the informational squall, we want to have a visually clean and simple interior. So that, the design idea incorporates with white and grey color scheme, round smoothing shape and natural element such as tree and rock to create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere in interior. A big blurred sphere window with bucida tree gives the character to the interior, makes it futuristic and mysterious. Let us use special but simple design to create space illusions, and know that people like enjoying peaceful weather and nature in silence is something every one like, we can use them to help us achieve this goal.

Tan Jin Long

Hey to the judges that seeing this document and I wish you have a good day. My name is Tan Jin Long I am a student from a academy called Mobius Academy.

So talking about my concept for this year “Daikin Layout Competition “is coming from industrial design, and why industrial? Because what I see in my vision industrial design always come with these huge window and spacious space where light is exposed in the space with all the exposed element and I know is suitable for this challenging layout.

But no just style is my concept a style is a style represent something but what my second concept is human interaction. Which mean why today human can’t be in 18s having their time to talk and not just looking phone.

“Human is like a magnet, we need to connect with each other”

Therefore, I create a layout where I called “Human Bonding” where all space can be connected and can be seen at the same time, making the family closer and closer and not just digital. Giving the space where they can be fun and bonding together and same time have privacy.

That’s all I have to say and I have done my best to give judges see the best of mine design.

Thank you for your time and have a good day.

BRIGHT & DARK is a concept that arises because of people’s different aesthetics. Each room with different design will be able to highlights different people’ side as that can reflect the contrast of BRIGHT & DARK. I was wondering why do people always fix by only one design style in a design unit, every client have their own taste on interior design. Therefore, BRIGHT & DARK concept was born for the contradiction between using one design style or follow people’s preference. In the Kitchen and Living Room will be brighter as these will be the area that mostly used, so design with mixture of zen and minimalist style in brighter colour tone. In Bedroom and Closet will be Hong Kong style(aka modern simplicity), design in these area will be in darker to link back the design concept of BRIGHT&DARK. For the part of linking the design, colour matching will be the best choice as all different design styles have their own specific colour tone to represent so in the presentation board have shown that the gradient of brightness is changing from room to room. From kitchen to closet, form bright to dark. And so, Daikin air-conditioner will be the focus of the design, so the color matching of ceiling and walls will be based on the colour of Daikin air-conditioner. For most of the designer will think that designing with different style is just like taking a high risk, but it a great chance and platform for students to propose their own design thoughts so taking this risk will be my opportunity of learning as a student.

Dark Luxury

As styling dark and moody interior has grown as a new favourite trend, many may have the intention to implement in their modern household while worried about the utilisation of air conditioning to the space since it may be in contrast with the room. The design idea incorporates dark colours along with the touch of natural elements and materials such as natural stones, timber, plants, and animal-like decorations to bring nature into residential interior. As dark colours add depth and character to the space, a touch of gold especially on lighting brightens up the mood with a luxurious ambience. Even though empowering, with the mix of dark luxury and natural elements, the interior remains to give off a comfortable residential environment for occupants as it is designed to be minimal and sleek. With this, the use of Daikin HCAC products that has a minimal outlook could blend in well with the spaces, complimenting with each element besides performing its functions.
